Good to know: Saxony is different
Saxony is the only federal state that kept the Day of Repentance and Prayer (Buß- und Bettag) as a public holiday. In return, employees in Saxony pay a larger share of the long-term care contribution, and employers a smaller one.
This also matters for private health insurance: your employer's contribution to private long-term care insurance is lower in Saxony. Our calculator takes this into account.
| Employee share (2026) | Saxony | Other states |
|---|---|---|
| With children | 2,3 % | 1,8 % |
| Childless | 2,9 % | 2,4 % |
| Employer | 1,3 % | 1,8 % |
